In his post-match interview following Barcelona’s 2-1 victory over Valencia in their opening La Liga match of the 2024/2025 season, head coach Hansi Flick highlighted the crucial role that Lamine Yamal will play for the team this season.
Barcelona had to come from behind to secure the win, with Robert Lewandowski scoring both goals. The first goal was assisted by the 17-year-old Yamal, whose dazzling performance not only contributed significantly to the team’s success but also earned applause from Valencia’s fans at the Mestalla, despite their team’s defeat.
Hansi Flick, who was managing Barcelona for the first time in a competitive match, was full of praise for the young Spanish talent. He acknowledged Yamal’s versatility and hinted at plans to deploy him in various positions throughout the season. Flick stated,
“He is a fantastic player. I was not surprised that he was applauded at the Mestalla. He is a great player, and everyone likes a player like that. And therefore, it is normal to be applauded.”
When questioned about the roles of Yamal and Raphinha in the team this season, Flick responded,
“They can play in several positions, and at the moment, it is necessary to have these solutions. We are focused on next week. It will be a tough match, but it is good to have three points to go to the next level.”
