Overview
This summer’s festival of football continues with the Olympics, just 10 days after the Euro 2024 final. The men’s football competition will kick off on Wednesday, July 24, followed by the women’s tournament starting on Thursday, July 25. The tournaments will run until August 10, culminating in the finals at Paris’ Parc des Princes.

At Tokyo 2020, Brazil and Canada won the gold medals in the men’s and women’s football tournaments, respectively.

Format
This is the 29th appearance of men’s football at the Olympics and the 8th for the women’s event. Group stage matches can end in a draw, but knockout games will go to extra-time and penalties if needed.
– Men’s Tournament: 16 teams divided into four groups. The top two teams from each group advance to the quarter-finals.
– Women’s Tournament: 12 teams divided into three groups. The top two teams from each group and the two best third-placed teams progress to the knockout stage.
