At 37 years old, he has won nearly every major trophy in the sport, from domestic accolades to the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA World Cup. Just days after being crowned Copa America champion for the second time in his career, Messi became the outright leader for the player with the most trophies in the history of the sport.
With the win against Colombia in the Copa America final, Messi surpassed former teammate and Brazil international Dani Alves to become the owner of an incredible 45 team trophies. As the Argentine returned to club football, Inter Miami couldn’t help but congratulate him on his remarkable achievement. During the halftime break between Inter Miami and Chicago Fire, Messi was honored with a grand tribute in front of the home crowd.
Forty-five children held up each of the player’s trophies he had claimed throughout his illustrious career. Clips of the event show the crowd chanting the Argentine’s name as they honored him for his achievements throughout a 20-year-long career in the top flight.
Club owner Jorge Mas handed the player a collage of trophies won while the screen displayed snippets of every trophy lift in Messi’s career.
