AS Roma Confirm Daniele De Rossi’s Contract Termination After Poor Start to the Season

AS Roma have officially terminated Daniele De Rossi’s contract as head coach following a disappointing start to the 2024/2025 season.

The club announced the decision on their website in the early hours of Wednesday, September 18, 2024, citing the need to take action in the team’s best interest.

De Rossi, a legendary figure at the club, was appointed in January 2024 to replace former manager José Mourinho. Despite early promise, including a sixth-place finish in Serie A last season, Roma has struggled this term. Under De Rossi’s leadership, the team managed 13 wins and suffered six defeats in 26 games across Serie A and Europa League competitions.

What Did Roma Say About De Rossi’s Dismissal?

AS Roma issued a statement, explaining the decision to part ways with De Rossi:

“Roma announces that Daniele De Rossi has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the first team. The club’s decision is made in the team’s best interests, to get back on the desired path as soon as possible when the season is still in its early stages. A heartfelt thank you to Daniele, who will always be at home at the Giallorossi club, for the work he has done in recent months with passion and dedication. Communication regarding the team’s technical guidance will follow.”

De Rossi’s departure follows Roma’s poor league form, leaving them 16th in the Serie A table after a 1-1 draw against Genoa, where De Rossi was sent off. The Italian side was also knocked out of the Europa League semifinals last season by Bayer Leverkusen.
